She's the same and that was her original name back in the 1990's.
They just retouched her up during the adventure series.

OK Amy is rigth in that no one will change their opinion about this, because, well, you just don't change your mind about Amy.
I think my reason to not like her goes back to when I was 10 or so... I was upset because there wasn't any girl character I wanted to be, when we were playing Sonic, because I couldn't identify myself with anyone, so I always got to be Amy because "but you're happy and energetic like her!" and had to run after the dude who was Sonic all the time. I think it gave bvirth to it.
